New Year. Fresh attempt.
It has been a looong time since I’ve been out. The weather today was just so beautiful I couldn’t resist. Even though the winds were at about 6mph that proved not quite enough for the Sutton. I could get some height, but not reliably, and this was the best shot I had from this outing. The good news was that I could get the kite and rig up fairly easy by myself, and that the camera fired continuously and correctly. So at least I’m becoming more accustomed to the gear. I’m still bothered by the lack of sharpness in the distance, though, since I had the camera set to “sport” and one would think the shutter in bright daylight would be fast enough to be sharp… I guess I’ll have to keep an eye on that.
I’m very excited by your blog posts, I was going through them from beginning to end rooting for you the whole time. I’m glad to see that you haven’t given up despite the mild success but I am assuming this is a skill that requires lots of practice. I’m an advanced amateur photographer but I would love to get into KAP. Looking at this last post I think the problem with your blurred photos may be a focus problem and less related to the shutter speed. If the blur appears “stagnant” then it just means that the camera’s depth of focus is not enough to pick up the objects which are far away, this can be fixed by placing your camera in landscape mode or setting the aperture to the highest value if you have an aperture priority or P mode, however, if the blur appears to have “movement”, streaks, dashes etc, then this is a problem with the shutter speed which should be resolved using the sports mode or setting the shutter to the highest value if your camera has a shutter priority or P mode.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I’m still determined to get better at KAP, though it’s taking waay longer than I thought it would. Your mileage may vary.
Interesting theory about the blur. What I’ve been doing is setting the camera to “sport” before launch, thinking the fastest shutter speed would be best. Next time I’ll try another mode. Great idea, thanks!
Now that the weather is getting more Spring-like, I hope to get out soon…
